Junior Room: Year 1-2 Classroom
Welcome to the Junior Room page for 2019. Our class is made up of an amazing team of students that are eager to learn. I know that every child in our class has been given talents from God and I look forward to helping them develop these talents further.
We have such an exciting time ahead of us with lots of fun learning activities planned. In the Junior Room our aim is to create, discover, explore, and reflect.
Our Encounter theme this year is ‘God keeps His Promises’, focusing on that God always keeps His promises. He can help us keep our promises to. The first unit we will dive into is called ‘The promises club’.
During Inquiry we will be asking questions about the world as we learn about Life cycles, Our Country, Feelings and Day and Night. Throughout each investigation we will discover how God can reveal himself to us through His world.
This year we will be continuing with Jolly Phonics and our Reading and Writing programmes. We will also be having a great time learning Mathematics through hands on experience. Our aim is that each student can see progress in these areas and have a fun time while developing these foundational skills.
In our classroom it doesn’t matter if you get something wrong as long as you are trying your best. Every child learns at a different rate and many learn in different ways.
I am very excited to be the Junior Room Teacher and I can not wait to spend this year working with God’s precious children.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
Middle Room - Year 3-5 Classroom
The Middle Room is made up of an awesome team of Year 3-5 students, enthusiastic to learn and have fun! This year our classroom theme is, ‘God Protects and Provides’. We are learning how our God protects us and provides for us by learning about how God has saved us. We are also learning how we can find and know God by exploring Jesus’ saving work.
Each day we participate in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. For the first time, we are excited to be taking part in a Davis Focussing and Learning Strategies Programme, designed to help all students self-manage and improve their ability to learn. This programme is particularly useful for picture-thinking students and those with Dyslexia. We are learning about what good readers and writers do so we can become good readers and writers ourselves. This includes understanding phonics, spelling patterns, and vocabulary.
During Inquiry time, we are investigating the Light, Colour, and Sound; South America, and how plants grow! Our explorations also incorporate using our artistic skills in Visual Art, Music, Drama, and Dance! Everyday during worship time, we continue to use our vocal skills by participating in corporate singing. In the Middle Room, we pride ourselves on our amazing singing abilities!
Our Room strives to be an encouraging and accepting environment. We aim for excellence in all areas, and we understand that excellence looks different for every child. We are not in competition with each other, but we are always trying to do our best and grow from strength to strength!
Learning in the Middle Room is God-centred, fun, and focussed! We love learning and growing both for now and for eternity!
Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters. Colossians 3:23
Senior Room - Year 6-8 Classroom
We have plenty happening and heaps to look forward to in the Senior Room this year! We are delving into the theme of God is faithful: starting with the plan of salvation, Jeremiah’s prophesies, how Daniel and his friends obey. We will also learn about Esther and the Minor Prophets and how God is the Restorer of Hope – dying and raising from the dead. We finish the year with the reconciliation of Jacob and Esau, Modern history and the Bible and our Christmas unit is The Rescuer is Born.
In the Senior Room, we will be striving to become even better Mathematicians, Readers and Writers, as we practice our strategies and skills, and increase our knowledge. We can be sure to find plenty of opportunities to improve our oral language skills and confidence as a speaker, with speeches, presenting, drama, and leading out.
Our Inquiry in Term 1 focuses on Water – where our water comes from, and the journey it takes to reach our taps. We will also learn about purification and conservation of water and how it affects us. In Term 2 we will learn more about Eastern Europe – locating places and comparing living and culture. Term 3 finds us learning about conflict– identifying where and why conflict exists, as well as possible solutions. In Term 4 we are going to be exploring the exciting world of science – everyday science that happens all around us.
In Art, we are going to let our creativity shine through the mediums of drawing, design, printing, collage, modeling and construction. In Music we will be learning about pitch, rhythm and texture, as we explore the conventions of writing music, as well as making music together.
All this and more! Between School Camp, P.E.’s athletics, swimming, squash, fitness, volleyball & hockey; Technology’s inventive and expressive creations; our learning of basic conversational Spanish and Maori; and beginning to think about our strengths and talents for future career paths, especially for our Year 7’s & 8’s - we are bound to have a busy, challenging, exciting year ahead!
